If you are getting ready to do a vinyl tile installation project, there are a few things that you will want to make sure
that you do and have in place before you get started. The last
thing that you want to have happen is to find out that the tiles are not sticking or that you don’t have enough of them to finish the room.
The first factor is that tile needs to get acclimated to the room that it is going to be
used in. That being the case, you are going to need to purchase it several days before you actually plan on
putting it down and then let it sit in the room. The floor will contract and expand with the varying
temperatures and you need to make sure that the tile is used to the temperature that it is being put down in.
Next, you need to make sure that your floor is totally clean. If there is any debris on the floor, the adhesive may not take and you will end up with either bubbles in the floor or
tiles that are actually coming up. This is not only going to look bad, but it is a safety hazard as
well.
The floor should also be free of any dings, dips, dunes or digs. If they are notable, the tile will not be able to lie flat on the ground and may end up shaping itself to the actual area
that is misshapen. If you put a tile over a hole, the tile will end up sinking and now you will have a dip in
your floor. Take the time to level off any bumps and fill in any holes.
If you are putting your tile down over a different style of floor or hardwood floors, you
will want to make sure that there are no nails or anything else that is sticking up. If there is, this will also cause an imperfection in the tile that will
have to be fixed costing your more money.
As long as you have all of this ready, you are set to begin your vinyl tile
installation. Prepping is the key to success and if you have the area ready, you can knock out a room in as
little as four or five hours. Make sure you follow these tips for a quick and easy DIY project.
